Shirley Mae Helton Braden, age 77, of Joplin, formerly of Meta, passed away Monday, May 21, 2012, at Joplin Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Poplar Bluff on July 31, 1934, daughter of the late Edna Mae and Marvin Raymond Warren. She was married to Norman Ray Helton who preceded her in death on September 11, 1973. On December 4, 1976, in Van Cleve, Shirley married Carl Braden, who preceded her in death in 2010.
She is survived by one daughter, JoAnn Hill of Joplin; one son, Rick Helton and wife Donna of Smithton, Illinois; three stepchildren, Susan Tennison and husband Buz of Monett, Pete Swokia and husband Robin of Winnemucca, Nevada, and Barb Shafer and husband Earl of Central Lake, Michigan; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one sister, JoAnn Light of Springfield.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 24, 2012, in Stokes Cemetery near Meta. Rev. Greg McClain will officiate.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Stokes Cemetery or to the Alzheimer's Association.
