Shirley Ann (Pope) Witt, age 88, of Eldon, passed away on Friday, May 22, 2026, at Rock Island Village in Eldon. She was born on April 4, 1938, daughter of the late James Pope and Ethel (Pemberton) Pope. On October 9, 1952, in Harrison, Arkansas, Shirley was united in marriage to Doral James Witt, who preceded her in death on December 27, 2016.
Shirley found great joy and purpose in caring for her family, devoting her life to raising her children and later cherishing every moment spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Throughout her life, Shirley cared and babysat for many children who all called her “grandma”, loving each one as her own. She was a past member of Faith Baptist Church in Eldon.
Shirley was infamous for her cinnamon rolls, and she found great joy in crocheting and lovingly created countless keepsakes for her family, including baby blankets, doll dresses, doilies, and other treasured handmade gifts.
She is survived by her six children, Rick Witt and Donna Ping, Diana Distler and husband Paul, Dwane Witt and wife Mary, Karen Maher and husband Tim, Sharon Webb and husband Ron, and Brian Witt and wife Helen; twelve grandchildren, Michael Distler and wife Amy, Brandon Distler, Megan Robydek and husband James, Tyler Yows and husband Chris, Cody Maher and wife Kelsey, Spencer Webb and wife Cheyenne, Skylar Webb, Jesse Witt and wife Lexi, Brittany Hill and husband Adam, Suzan DuBoise, Dustin Witt, and KayLynn Zumwalt and husband Ryan; twenty great-grandchildren, Matthew and wife Christine, Jylian, Spencer, Kynlee, Wyatt, Kiya, David, Walker, Aubrey, Dalton, Macey, Paisley, Madilyn, Annabelle, Noah, Silas, Tatum, Reece, Klara and Hayden; and one great-great grandson, Brantley with one great-great-granddaughter on the way; sister, Betty; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by three infant children, Teresa, Sherry, and Steve Witt; two grandsons, Nicholas and Matthew James; and her siblings, Frances Pope, Lois Boeck, and Georgia Johnson.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 (noon), with the funeral service immediately following at 12 noon, on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia. Interment will be held in Mt. Union Cemetery in Brumley.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia.
