Stanley Louis Bax, age 87, of St. Elizabeth, passed away on Monday, August 7, 2017, at Miller County Care and Rehabilitation Center in Tuscumbia. He was born in St. Elizabeth on April 15, 1930, son of the late Stephen and Rosa (Luetkemeyer) Bax. On Sept. 14, 1957, in Wilhelmina, Stanley married Evelyn Marie Seely, who survives.
Stanley served in the United States Army in the Korean War from January 16, 1952 until his honorable discharge on October 24, 1953. After the war, Stanley met his future wife while working in St. Louis. Together they bought a farm in St. Elizabeth where they raised their children. He had a talent of being able to fix anything around the farm that needed repairs. Stanley was an avid fisherman and with Susie was known for catching large catfish.
Stanley was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in St. Elizabeth.
In addition to his loving wife, Evelyn, he is also survived by six children, Carol Neese and husband Dennis of Iberia, Donna Dickneite and husband Kenneth of St. Anthony, Ron Bax and wife Cheryl of St. Elizabeth, Susie Lavery and husband Dr. Dan Lavery of Jefferson City, Clifford Bax of Branson, and Melissa Bax of Camdenton; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Emma McNew of Wardsville and Jerline Moreland of Jefferson City.
He was preceded in death by his infant son, Curtis Bax; five brothers, Charlie, Wilfred, Walter, Clarence, and Steve Bax; and two sisters, Mildred Lacy and Ella Otto.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 4 p.m., on Wednesday, August 9, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in St. Elizabeth.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 10, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church with Fr. Joby Thomas officiating. Interment will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery.
