Theodore Joseph "Ted" Sanning, age 79, of Iberia, died Monday, July 28, 2008, in Iberia as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born in Kansas City on June 7, 1929, son of Jake and Minnie Sanning. On December 2, 1961, in Mary's Home, he was married to Violet Jean Pemberton Meyer, who preceded him in death on September 9, 1971. On November 11, 1978, in Crocker, he was married to Reba Faye Cochran Harrison, who died as the result of the same accident.
He was a loving father and grandfather. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a lifelong farmer and worked for many years in construction at Tan-Tar-A and as a manager at Osage Products in Eldon. He was a member of the Laborers Union and a member of St. Cornelius Catholic Church in Crocker.
Survivors include one son, Tommy Meyer and wife Carol of Iberia; two daughters, Shelia Marquart and husband Dale of Montreal, and Beverly Merkle and husband Don of Eldon; two stepdaughters; five grandchildren, Travis Meyer and wife Rogetta, Evan Meyer and wife Christie, Courtney Marquart, Violet Marquart, Joe Don Merkle and wife Marcy; four step grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, Alexis Meyer, Madalynne Meyer, Olivia Meyer, and Madison Merkle; and three step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Elsie Hopen, Estelle Sanning, Agnes Sanning, and Geneva Sanning; and one great-granddaughter, Abigail Meyer.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 2, at Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia. Rev. Walter Reisinger will officiate. Interment with military honors under the direction of the Iberia VFW Post 6167 and the Iberia American Legion Post 105 will be in Mt. Union Cemetery near Brumley.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
