IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Thomas F. "Tom"
Thompson
November 22, 1940 – March 9, 2026
Thomas F. “Tom” Thompson, age 85, of Iberia, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2026, at his home with his loving wife, Peggy, by his side. He was born in Santa Rita, New Mexico, on November 22, 1940, son of the late Victor and Virginia (Cooper) Thompson. On May 3, 1990, in Springfield, Tom was united in marriage to Peggy Fancher, who survives at their home.
Tom was born in a region of New Mexico affectionately known by locals as “Space.” True to his characteristic wit, Tom would often joke with friends and acquaintances that he was “born in space”, delighting those around him with his playful sense of humor that preceded him.
He obtained an engineering degree from MSU. Tom possessed a keen intellectual curiosity, always seeking to understand the mechanics behind various systems. He enjoyed woodworking, making several custom pieces of furniture for their home throughout the years. During his career he worked for various companies, including Cessna, a Feather Factory in Idaho, Jostens, and owned and operated his own business that manufactured various custom machining and CNC products.
Tom had a deep passion for travel and cherished adventures to faraway places. He especially loved visiting Australia, Fiji, New Zealand, and Hawaii, embracing the unique cultures and natural beauty each destination offered. Tom and Peggy traveled all over the beautiful USA and especially in the high country of Colorado. Road tripping and exploring back roads and out of the way local restaurants. They were always looking for adventure and also enjoyed gardening and sailing.
One of Tom’s greatest gifts to Peggy was to move them “home” to Iberia near her family because he knew she would need help. Forever grateful to Peggy’s nephews and wives, Cory Fancher, Andrew (Melanie) Fancher, Jansen (Madisen Bronson) Fancher, Luke (Brandy) Fancher, and John (Renae) Fancher for their care and love during Tom’s final years. Tom was an active member of his community serving on the Greene County Planning and Zoning for 6 years, was a member of the Masonic Lodge, and First and Calvary Presbyterian Church in Springfield, where he also served as Deacon.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy, and “grandchildren”, Anna Fancher and Jackson Fancher; nephew, Tony (Nancy) Underhill, niece-in-law, Trenna Underhill; and great-nephew, Jason Underhill.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Mitzi Thompson Underhill and her husband Ron and nephew, Steve Underhill.
At present, no services are scheduled; however, a Celebration of Life will be organized at a future date.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Livingston Cemetery.
