Veda Evelyn (Scott) DeGraffenreid, age 85, of Brumley, passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2017, at Lake Regional Health System in Osage Beach. She was born in Brumley on January 8, 1932, daughter of the late Millard and Goldie (Hutsler) Scott. On November 26, 1950 in Buckner, Veda married Lloyd DeGraffenreid, who survives at the home.
Veda and her husband, Lloyd, owned and operated DeGraffenreid Store in Brumley for 38 years. She was very active and involved with preparing funeral dinners for the community and church.
She was an avid quilter and also enjoyed reading and spending time outdoors tending to her garden and raising goats. Veda was a member of the Brumley Fire Flies, and a long-time member of the Brumley Baptist Church.
In addition to her loving husband, Lloyd DeGraffenreid, she is also survived by three children, Karen DeGraffenreid of Brumley, Sharon Gardner of Iberia, and James DeGraffenreid and wife Kathy of Port St. Lucie, Florida; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Don Scott of Stoutland; and one sister, Hazel Morrow of Iberia.
She was preceded in death by one son, Michael Lloyd DeGraffenreid; daughter, Mary Ann Smith; and son-in-law, Danny Gardner.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 (noon), with services immediately following at 12 (noon), on Tuesday, May 16, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia. Bro. Warren Mitchell will officiate. Interment will be in Hawkins Cemetery near Brumley.
