Obituary

Velma Mae (Parker) Surber, age 97, of Jefferson City formerly of St. Ann, died Thursday, January 5, 2006, at Summit Villa in Holts Summit. She was born in Meta on September 13, 1908, a daughter of William Alfred and Bertha Irene (Woody) Parker. In 1946, she was married to John Simmons, who preceded her in death in 1959. In 1961, she was married to Wiley Surber, who preceded her in death in 1981.

She attended school in Maries County and St. Louis. She was a homemaker and in her early years worked for the U.S. Government Disbursement Center in St. Louis. She was a member of Ricker Memorial Church of the Nazarene in Van Cleve.

Survivors include: one brother, Gene Parker and wife Lorraine of Jefferson City; six nephews, Dwight Parker, Douglas Parker, Bruce Parker, Marcus Parker, Carl Parker, and Dale Parker; and two nieces, Beverly Lemon and Kimberly Parker.

Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday, January 7, at Rekus Funeral Home in Meta. Services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Robert M. Hamm officiating. Interment will be in Pendleton Cemetery near Meta.
