Vernita C. Block, age 94, of St. Elizabeth, passed away on Friday, May 17, 2024, at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City. She was born in her family home in St. Thomas on December 28, 1929, daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Kroll) Kirkweg. On October 4, 1950, in St. Elizabeth, Vernita was united in marriage to Victor Block, who survives at their home.
Vernita was a loving homemaker with a talent for crocheting and cooking delicious food for her family and friends. She fashioned various clothing for her children in their younger days. She was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time tending to her flower garden. Vernita was a faithful member of St. Anne's Sodality and St. Lawrence Catholic Church in St. Elizabeth.
In addition to her husband, Victor Block, she is also survived by three children, Don (Georgia) Block, Mary Lou (Greg) Schulte, and Joyce (Joe) Lootens; one grandson, Steven Schulte; and numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her infant daughter, Sandra Block, and sister, Marcella Luetkemeyer.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., with Mass of Christian Burial immediately following at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, May 21, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in St. Elizabeth with Fr. Christopher Aubuchon officiating. Interment will be held in St. Lawrence Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Lawrence Catholic Church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in St. Elizabeth.
