Victor Herbert Block, age 96, of St. Elizabeth, passed away on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City.  He was born on April 16, 1929, son of the late Victor Edward and Mayme (Caspari) Block.  On October 4, 1950, in St. Elizabeth, Victor was united in marriage to Vernita Catherine Kirkweg, who preceded him in death on May 17, 2024.

Victor was a 1947 graduate of St. Peters High School.  He honorably served his country as a paratrooper with 82nd Airborne Division in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, earning the rank of Corporal.

Victor was a respected member of his community whose lifelong passion for car mechanics led him to own and operate Kirkweg Garage in St. Elizabeth, a cornerstone of the community, for 52 years.  After retiring at the age of 82, he continued pursuing his passion for trout fishing at Bennett Springs.  He was a devoted member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church.

He is survived by three children, Donald (Georgia) Block, Mary Lou (Greg) Schulte, and Joyce (Joe) Lootens; one grandson, Steven Schulte; one brother, Richard "Dutch" Block; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

In addition to his parents Victor and Mayme Block, and loving wife, Vernita Block, he was also preceded in death by his infant daughter, Sandra Block; and two brothers, Robert Block and James Block.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., with Mass of Christian Burial immediately following at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, July 29, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church with Fr. Christopher Aubuchon officiating.  Interment with military honors will be held at St. Lawrence Cemetery.

Memorial contributions are suggested to The Victor Block Memorial Fund.  Donations will be thoughtfully distributed among various organizations that were meaningful to Victor and his family.
