Virgel M. Unger, age 86, of Eldon, died Monday, November 13, 2006, at his home. He was born in Cumberland City, Tennessee on January 27, 1920, a son of the late John Emmett and Nina (Sales) Unger. On March 5, 1943 in St. Louis, he was married to Nellie Hettenhouse, who preceded him in death on September 27, 1996.
Those who survive him include: One son, Larry Unger and wife Karen of Granite City, Illinois; one daughter, Nancy Greene and husband Gary of Eldon; three grandchildren, Darrell and Jerry Unger and John Jones; five great grandchildren, Beth Groll, Colleen, Tony and Kelly Unger and Sara Jones; two sisters, Francis Smith and Mable Warfield; three brothers, Robert and James Unger and Ernest Marable and numerous nieces and nephews.
Two brothers, John Emment Jr. Unger and Charles Unger and three sisters, Lucille Spicer, Elizabeth Bullard and Mary Helen Marable, also preceded him in death.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 17, at Rekus Funeral Home in Eldon. Pastor Shay Carpenter will officiate. Interment will be in Eldon City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, November 16, at Rekus Funeral Home in Eldon.
