Virginia "Jennie" Smith, age 80, of Iberia, died Tuesday, July 24, 2007, at Osage Beach Health Care Center. She was born in Ava, Illinois, on March 18, 1927, daughter of George W. and Nancy Carolyn (Brown) Combs. On December 21, 1948, in Las Vegas, Nevada, she was married to Thomas Edward Smith, who preceded her in death on August 11, 1964.
She owned and operated a beauty shop in Iberia for several years and was a member of Iberia First Baptist Church.
Survivors include six sons, Raymond E. Smith of Paso Robles, California, Raymond "Tom" Smith of Sullivan, Robert "Bob" Smith of Waterloo, Illinois, Jerry W. Smith of Fenton, Jack A. Smith of St. Martins, and Rance E. Smith of Holts Summit; four daughters, Marjorie Scronce of Terre Haute, Indiana, Regina Blankenship of Crocker, Nancy Brandt of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Sandy Wright of Iberia; 31 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, and five great great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Marcella Norton; one son, Delbert Smith; one grandson, Michael Blankenship; one brother; and four sisters.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 27, at Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia. Rev. Glen Golden will officiate. Interment will be in Hickory Point Cemetery near Iberia.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
