Walter Edwin Kimker, age 94, of Eldon formerly of Iberia, passed away on Friday, March 6, 2026, at Rock Island Village in Eldon. He was born in Kirkwood, on April 25, 1931, son of the late Louis and Lena (Shackelford) Kimker. On January 2, 1981, in Crestwood, Walter was united in marriage to Claire French, who preceded him in death on November 16, 2020.
Walter honorably served during the Korean Conflict in the United States Marines achieving the rank of corporal. He was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Ballwin and Kirkwood, which later became AT&T, as a telephone technician.
Walter belonged to various organizations including the St. Louis Street Riders, Marine Corp League, the American Legion Post 611 in Ballwin and later the American Legion in Manchester. He had a passion for woodworking and was an avid outdoorsman as he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Walter was a talented vocalist and bass player, playing for numerous country bands throughout his life. His love for music brought joy to many and was a meaningful part of his life.
His sense of humor preceded him. His ability to bring laughter and lightheartedness to those around him was a cherished aspect of his personality, remembered fondly by family and friends.
Walter deeply cherished his family and country. His warm presence and dedication to those around him left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
He is survived by two daughters, Barbara Golden and Brenda (Paul) Mullen; three grandchildren, Heather Golden, Cory (Sarah) Mullen, and Laura (Nathanael) Brunner; three great-grandchildren, Zoe, Shay, and Maryn; former wife, Melva Bean; stepson, Matt French; two step-grandchildren Corey and Amber and their children; and a host of family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Lois and Lena Kimker, and loving wife, Claire, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Frances “Fran” Russell.
Visitation will be held from 10:30 to 11 a.m., with services immediately following at 11 a.m., on Friday, March 13, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia. Interment with military honors will follow at Iberia Cemetery.
