Wilford W. "Bill" Graves, age 80, of Iberia, died Saturday, August 9, 2008, after a short battle with lung cancer, at Capital Region Medical Center. He was born in Ulman on September 28, 1927, the second of five sons born to Walter and Oma (Stokes) Graves. Raymond Graves and Tom Graves survive and Harry Graves and William Graves preceded Bill in death.
On February 10, 1955, in Iberia, he was married to Colleen Faye Rowden, who survives at the home.
He was an Army veteran of World War II. He worked in Alaska for Green Construction Company for over 30 years paving roads, working on the Alaskan Pipeline, and building airports. He retired in 1984. After his retirement, he operated a cattle farm. He was a member of the Iberia Masonic Lodge #410 AF and AM and the Abou Ben Adhem Temple in Springfield. He was also a member of Iberia First Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing and riding horses.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 12, at Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia. Bro. Gene Edwards will officiate. Interment will be in Iberia Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home with a Masonic Service at
7:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society or the Tyson Graves Memorial Scholarship Fund.
