William "Beco" Alonis, age 89, of Eldon, died Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at the Harry S. Truman VA Hospital. He was born in Hughestown, Pennsylvania on July 27, 1919, a son of Joseph and Beatrice Alonis.
William was an Army veteran of World War II where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge and earned the Good Conduct, American Campaign and European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medals. He also earned three Bronze Stars and the World War II Victory medal. He owned and operated Beco Building and Supply Company in Eldon for many years. William was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and was of the Catholic faith.
Those who survive him include: one son, William Rogers and wife Debra of Chicago, Illinois, one daughter, Gail Rogers of Arizona and his good friends, Warren Lexa and Joe Henry.
His parents and siblings all preceded him in death.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 3, at Rekus Funeral Home in Eldon. Deacon Gary Christoff will officiate. Interment with military honors provided by the Miller County VFW Post 2442 will be in Eldon City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Saturday, August 2, at Rekus Funeral Home in Eldon with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m.
