William Eugene “Gene” Pritchett, age 87, of Iberia, passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at his home. He was born in Edwardsville, Kansas, on February 13, 1939, son of the late William Caswell and Gladys June (Sons) Pritchett. On August 17, 1958, in Edwardsville, Kansas, Gene was united in marriage to Janet Sue Shuler, who survives at their home.

Gene worked as an ironworker and was a proud member of Iron Workers Local No. 10 in Kansas City. He approached his work with strength, skill, and dedication, qualities that also shaped the way he cared for his family and friends. Gene found great peace in the outdoors, especially feeding his fish, and tending his garden. With a remarkable gift for growing things, he could bring even the simplest patch of earth to life, and he generously shared the fruits of his labor and the knowledge he gained through the years.

Some of his happiest moments were spent cheering from the stands at his grandchildren’s ballgames and was an avid fan of the Kansas City Chiefs. He was a devoted member of Honey Springs Baptist Church where he enjoyed helping with the food pantry and was a member of the Baptist Association. Gene’s love of singing brought him and those around him great joy. “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art” held a special place in his heart and was his favorite hymn to sing.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Janet Pritchett; children, Debra (Randy) Luttrell, Danny (Amy) Pritchett, Lisa (Steve) Wheatley, and John Pritchett; ten grandchildren, Randi, Seth, Dakotah, Nathan, Curtis, Sasha, Elizabeth, Taylor, Bryce, and Braydan; 19 great-grandchildren; five siblings, Kenneth (Brenda) Pritchett, Jesse Pritchett, Sarah Duncan, Judy Robinett, and Rose (Terry) Robinett; brother-in-law, Dennis Nichols; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three siblings, Helen Nichols, Glennis Moneymaker, and James “Buck” Pritchett; daughter-in-law, Joni Pritchett; granddaughter, Alyvia Pritchett; sister-in-law, Shriley Pritchett; brothers-in-law, Ronnie Robinett and Layman Duncan.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 (noon), with services immediately following at 12 (noon), on Monday, September 21, 2026, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia with Quincy Robinett and Dennis Nichols officiating. Interment will be held in Mt. Union Cemetery near Brumley.
