William John Huhman, 88, of St. Elizabeth, went to Heaven Monday, September 10, 2007, at St. Elizabeth Care Center, where he was a resident. He was born September 28, 1918, a son of Joseph F. and Margaret Boeckman Huhmann. He was married July 14, 1945, in St. Thomas, to Margaret Mary Adrian who preceded him to Heaven on September 3, 1996.
Mr. Huhman followed his father and grandfather in farming near the Osage River between Tuscumbia and St. Elizabeth, living his entire life in the neighborhood where his grandparents Johann Anton August and Caroline (Potthast) Huhmann settled in the latter part of the nineteenth century. In addition to dairy and beef cattle farming, Mr. Huhman was a poultry farmer having at various times chicken broilers, laying hens and turkeys. He attended school at the rural Lurton schoolhouse, where he also later was a bus driver. He was a lifelong member of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in St. Elizabeth and St. Joseph's Sodality.
Survivors include five sons, William and Linda (Wright) Huhman, Williamsport, Ohio, Michael and Carol (Burriss) Huhman, Mayville, Wisconsin, Stanley and Teri (Rist) Huhman, Denver, Iowa, Sidney and Joy (Huffstutler) Huhman, Florissant, and John and Jean (Christie) Huhman, League City, Texas; two sisters, Corine (Joe) Flick and Clara Rowan both of Jefferson City, sisters-in-law Pauline (Beck) Huhman of St. Elizabeth and Marie (Kirchner) Huhman of Okeene, Oklahoma, and nine grandchildren.
His parents; two daughters, Nancy and Angela Huhman; six brothers and two sisters also preceded him in death.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, September 14, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in St. Elizabeth. The Rev. Francis Stuart, O.S.B. will officiate. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, September 13, at the Rekus Funeral Home in St. Elizabeth with the rosary at 7:00 p.m.
