Zella L. Humphrey, age 89, of Iberia, died Sunday, September 10, 2006, at Lake Regional Hospital. She was born in Iberia on January 10, 1917, daughter of Fred and Mary "Lady" (Fritchey) Helton. On March 15, 1935, in Tuscumbia, she was married to Rockford Bennett Humphrey, who preceded her in death on June 6, 1968.

Zella was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of rural Iberia. She loved her garden and flowers and spent much of her time outdoors. She was a member of Mt. Gilead Christian Church where she was active until ill health kept her from attending. She will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved her.

Survivors include two daughters, Mazie Leach and Carolyn Carmack both of Iberia; Esther Machon of Jefferson City whom she referred to as her other daughter; six grandchildren, Bryan Carmack and wife, Sonya, Roy Carmack and wife, Patty, Kevin Carmack and wife, Heather, Kim Robbins, Stacie Howk and husband, Todd, and Shane Leach, seven great-grandchildren, Susie, Bobby Ross, Jordy, Lenora, Kaleb, Gabe, and Lexie; four step great-grandchildren, Cherish, Ashley, Steve, and Joe; two step great-great-grandchildren, Devin and Landon; several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; twin infant children, Faye and Clay Humphrey; one son, Dorsey Humphrey; two son-in-laws, Jack Leach and Bob Carmack; and five brothers, Clyde, Everett, Guy, Wroe, and George Helton.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 13, at Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia. Bro. Oscar Barrickman and Bro. Billy Claiborn will officiate. Interment will be in Union Cemetery near Iberia.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Mt. Gilead Christian Church.
